Wow! It's been a while since the last post. Lots of things have happened.
We are no longer meeting at the Blairstown Community Center and haven't been
for quite a while.
When the BCCenter on East Avenue was demolished we lost our weekly "home"
for quite a few months.
The Catherine Dickson Library on Lambert Road in Blairstown came to our
rescue!
We have been meeting at the library every Tuesday from 9:30am to 12noon and enjoy
the staff's company and hospitality. Here's to a long relationship!

First Quarter Donations:
We are off to a great start for this year. I'm happy to report that the NW KnitWits have donated to local charities:
January...105 items

Thank you everyone...you know who you are...for the donations of yarn that appear just about every week!

April 4th, 2007
A KnitWit member, Dorothy Rowe, is also a "Quilter Extraordinaire". A very nice article was in "The Press" (a local weekly paper) about her accomplishments.

March 24th: Mount Bethel, PA. Craft Show
It was decided that any member attending a craft show as a vendor could take some select items to display for purchase. A newsletter was created telling of the work that the NW KnitWits do...
This was our first fundraiser of the year and will end up with the Hope Christmas Craft Market in December.

The End of 2006...
We'd also like to publicly "blog" a BIG "Thank you" to:
1) The North Warren News for running a weekly item about our KnitWits group in the Community News section.
We also thank this local paper for printing the picture of our group on Clean-Up Day
(see 11/16 blogpost).
2) Doc South of radio station WRNJ-1510 in Hackettstown. Thank you for having 2 members of our group on your show for an interview in April of 2006. And a special big thank you for keeping the KnitWits name in announcements during the year.
As a KnitWit member, I believe both of the above greatly helped in spreading the word about what we do as a group. For the last 2 months of the year we received many donations, both from private individuals and from other area civic groups and organizations.
As of January, 2007, the KnitWits membership is at 42 registered RSVPmembers--with 15 members of the total working at home.

Blairstown Clean Community Day
We are not afraid of working for yarn! :)
On November 11th, 14 members of the North Warren KnitWits met at Footbridge Park...and CLEANED UP for the Blairstown Clean Community Day! The oldest member helping out is 88 years young!
Here's a pic of us with our new T-shirts....we had fun!...we have some $$ for yarn!!
To who and what items we donate...
Do you know that the KnitWits have been handcrafting and donating needed items for over 10 years??
Do you know that we receive no grants or funding to buy new yarn??
We rely on donated yarn or your gift to the KnitWits in order to enable us to buy new yarn for our volunteer crocheters and knitters.
For the year 2005, we donated over 1200 items consisting of afghans, lapghans, shawls, hats,
scarves, mittens, baby sweaters/hats/booties/blankets to:

About Our Community Organization...
The KnitWit members meet every Wednesday from 9am to 12noon at the Blairstown Community Center on East Avenue to knit and crochet many various items that are donated to several charities and organizations in Warren County and any surrounding communities requesting our service.
One does not have to attend the meetings to belong as several members crochet or knit items exclusively at their homes.
We can even boast having a man as a member; Ray is a really fast crocheter and doesn't read or need a pattern!
KnitWit members over the age of 55 are part of the RSVP program (Retired Senior and Volunteer Program) of NORWESCAP, based in Phillipsburg, NJ---but any age can join the KnitWits group as a member.
